coby, cpl of qwik things ~ it is amazing to me that the people don't know what oak it is; and don't do anything with it. the rest of your questions hinge on doing something with it, and you already got two opinions from people you liked who said it doesn't need to come down, and they wouldn't say that if it did. Quercus rubrum, the red oak, does have beautiful wood. I have a collection from large trees. Mills will not take city trees except in very special situs- they will not risk the inevitable iron in the wood. Individuals sometimes will, if it is something like say Oregon Black Walnut, a rare and absolutely rainbowed wood. Hug the tree instead. Apologize, even. :o)
