Mani - RE: "Register reports that AMD will cut the 1 GHz Athlon by 40%!!"

Looks like AMD is going back to its normal routine by slashing the price of the 2nd fastest processor when the fastest one comes out (1GHz and 1.1GHz in this case).

Register reports that AMD will cut the 1 GHz Athlon by 40%!!

This would explain why AMD could have been stockpiling >1Ghz TBirds rather than announcing them on June 5th. They may have suspected the intel's 1.13GHz paper launch. That would be wise, given that what have always been reproached to AMD is their ability to produce enough of their high speed chips. Now that they have a 12 to 1 ratio on the GHz level, what will it be for 1.1 and 1.2 GHz?

On another side, we can analyse that 1 GHz is now binning at a full production level and AMD wants to price it more attractively...
