Globalstar USA Coverage Map has been updated.

globalstarusa.com

Not surprisingly, the availability of roaming service in northern S. America, Central America, Southern Africa and Australia has been slipped from "1st half, 2000" to "2nd half, 2000"

Otherwise, the map is similar to its predecessor dated May 30, except for one intriguing point: the N. American coverage shown on the world map is extended to include nearly all of Alaska, and much more of the N. Atlantic, including southern Greenland. There's a also a significant northern bulge in the coverage in the Eastern part of Canada, so that nearly all of Baffin Island is now said to be covered.

The coverage expansion in NE Canada and the N. Atlantic seems plausible in light of other maps and past statements about overwater coverage in the Atlantic, but the alleged coverage of Alaska is quite a new claim (and not reflected in the N. American continental coverage map).

It's believable, I guess, considering that the distance from the Calgary GW to Barrow Alaska is about the same as from the Ottawa GW to the top of Baffin Island.

Hope someone will check this out with G*USA.
