Huh?!! You mean you invest for the purpose of seeing your assets decrease in value?

That way I read it, Hutch's perspective is essentially... "Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes"....

And when it comes to stocks or commodities, you're playing a zero sum game, where one party's gain is the other's loss, and you'd better make sure you're on the right side of the trend.
