The only things I have that see that much use are my computer and my car, neither of which seem to have conformed to the shape of my hand yet.;^)

We have a lot of tools and gadgets, but nothing that gets steady use. I am a big fan of efficiency, and am always looking for the fastest way to get things done as long as it's right. For example, I don't machine sand.

Last night I dreamed I was looking at my face in the mirror. Do you ever do that? It's always a dangerous thing for me to do. I never know what I might see. I very rarely see my own face, and even when I do, the image keeps moving around like a hallucination. Sometimes I see demons, bad spirits. Last night the mirror was mostly black, but hallucinatory images would swim up through the surface of the blackness and then fade away like smoke. I commented on each one, because they were a different aspect of my personality, but they were separate, like multiple personalities, only without their own real names. I can't remember them all. One of them was "the crazy lady who doesn't want to be here and wants to go away" and one of them was "the dyke." "The dyke" had curly black hair, too much makeup, and was wearing a black Merry Widow corset and pounced on my husband. I think it was a misnomer. Or maybe she was trying too hard.

Later I dreamed I was trying to strip a seventeen page newspaper. Obviously, it can't be done, there have to be an even number of pages. But everyone kept telling me that they had done it last month. I went out to the pressroom to try to get the foreman to make me a page dummy (mock-up) but he was too busy - he told me that the seventeenth page needed to flip around, which made no sense. I tried looking in old job jackets for last month's paper to see how they did it, but they didn't save a copy. This is probably just a frustration dream.

JK went on vacation to Alaska - this is true, by the way. Sunday I asked him if he wanted me to cover his cases while he was gone and he said yes, and that he would touch base with me before he went, but I never heard from him. Wednesday his receptionist called me and told me that a number of clients were freaking out because he left and they didn't know what was happening with their cases, and some had court dates before JK was scheduled to come back. And his secretary is also on vacation, she's in Germany. And his private office is locked. So I took the names of the people who called and returned their calls and just started winging it. It would have helped to have had their paperwork, but I just told them that JK's office was locked and I couldn't get it and had them begin at the beginning, and was able to get up to speed very quickly. The only one that worries me is a reckless driving charge on Tuesday, I really am not up for it. I hope he got the court date continued, but I couldn't get through to the court, which is in another county, and will have to drive there Monday to check it in person. Both lines were ringing constantly, but I was able to get all the other balls back into the air before I went home. Actually, it was a lot of fun.

JK is not set up to do civil work, that's his problem. He doesn't have a decent computer, copy machine or fax machine to handle large quantities of paper. He's really a criminal lawyer, which doesn't require paperwork. Maybe my ship has come in - I am a very good civil lawyer, but not a very good rainmaker. I still don't know what to charge him. I keep telling him to name a figure and he keeps telling me to name a figure. Full price ($150) is too much, but I've got my own office overheard so it can't be salary rate ($30). Something in between.
