hi John,
apologies if i'd slighted you in the earlier post. thanks for the response. obviously you have a good idea what you're doing.

i was building a celeron 400 last weekend and spent hours messing around with it, until i got that idea that perhaps celerons don't support a 100mhz bus or above. so i switched it back to 66mhz and it runs with stability.

another weird thing about that mainboard was that the onboard video jumper was 'off' when the manual said 'on' and the other way around. so to disable the onboard video i had to set it to what the manual said was 'on.'

yes an sis motherboard sure makes for an interesting conflaguration... er, configuration.

yes win9x is 'persnickity' but it sure has a lot of app support. i've always liked PCs better than the mac because i like the 'wires hanging out' image of the pc versus 'clean' image of the mac.

of course from an overall user-experience standpoint there probably isn't a lot of difference between the two platforms these days.
