When they put new gravel on our road, my husband asked if he could take some of the 'extra' for his own use. The road foreman agreed and we spent the summer hauling chipped stone.

My point: help yourself, but get permission first -- that way, you're not stealing.

P.S. I 'think' you're automatically entitled to the gravel you scrape out of your road-rash after some 'exciting' moments on your 650, but to be sure, better ask the ambulance attendents.
