hi John,

i hear ya regarding microsoft. i've been up here 'defending msft against the doj' of late but i still think that, with or without the doj msft has some serious problems going forward.

what linux really needs to get into the consumer space is an ability to port windows direct-x apps over. game support under linux is pathetic, so it's a productivity os but not a gamer os. yeah it has quake but it certainly doesn't have close combat, or even better yet, Combat Mission. www.battlefront.com

without a plethora of games linux is dead as a consumer platform. however the stream-based open-sourced model is a computing paradise for system admins, 'hackers,' programmers, etc. it amazes me how some msft-cheerleaders here always try to brush linux off as 'irrelevant'

now that's dangerous =g=

yes playstation could be a threat to msft going forward.

JRR: If you think SI is slow today guess what server system they use? I think it starts with "A". If you don't like your present W98 buy W2K I hear it never crashes. In 5 years MSFT will be leading th pack wherever the market and MSFT take us. That is why they ask where do you want to go today. They ask the question and then they take you there their way. Remember that GUI was not in MSFT's vocabulary while Mac was rolling along with it or some years. The same thing will happen in the server world and on the www. It is marketing marketing and marketing. JFD
