Actually...I never quite said it was a fibre-optics company, but rather a fibre-optics PLAY. Some of their sales are from telecoms hoping to test new fibre-optic portions of their networks, which would make it a play.

>Tollgrade Communications knows for whom the phone bell tolls -- and for whom it doesn't. The company's testing devices enable telephone and cable TV companies to diagnose problems in their wireline networks from remote locations. With Tollgrade's metallic channel units (MCUs), which account for about three-quarters of its sales, phone companies can use their existing systems for testing copper lines to test the newer fiber-optic portions of local loops as well. For cable TV companies, Tollgrade offers a cable status monitoring system.<

In other words, they do also have fibre-optic test products in their line. Regardless, it is nice to see the stock finally on people's radar screens. As for earnings, I expect them to really smash estimates, as they have done the past few quarters. Last quarter they came in with 39 cents vs 23 cent estimates...and the quarter before had them at 78 cents vs 50 cent estimates. Both quarters showed accelerating revenue growth as well. Will be interesting to see how the stock reacts this time around when it is more heavily followed...

Cap

P.S. Do not jump to conclusions so quick, had you done more DD, you could have found that some of their sales are for fibre-optics related products. As lame as it sounds, all it takes is the word "fibre-optic" in your company description, and some momentum/daytraders will come across you. This is likely what helped propel TLGD to these levels, as well as other factors. Also, if you like "Telecom pick and shovel companies"...another one of my favorites is CLRN.
