I know of at least two, and I only hang out on a couple of threads.

It goes beyond business harm. There are lots of things I say, writing styles I try out, etc., that I would not necessarily feel comfortable sharing with family, friends, etc. SI gives me the opportunity to do those things, to try out different writing styles, one-liners, etc. I am not talking about flaming or personal attacks, which if you read through my posts you will not find. But if my name was out there I would not feel comfortable saying those things. An essential part of the experience for me would be lost.

Who are they to take that away through their sloppiness?

If you think that is not real harm I think you are closing your eyes to a lot of things that are important to people.

No harm? How would you like to have this guy on your trail?

I'm very glad my userid isn't my name. I know I wouldn't want anyone trying to track me down.

I can only think of one person who had their full name revealed, and that person was not concerned. I think you would be hard pressed to prove any real harm done to a person or business.

Nonsense, and also not the point. SI is supposed to be "secure". They screwed up. Very very badly, and made things worse by--according to what we now read from BryanB--not having the faintest idea what was going on.

Update, lol: last night RB switched over to Altavista servers. Oooops, slow as molasses right now, when it works at all.

"Schlimmbesserung" should be a word in English, too.
