"Partial birth abortion" and "live birth abortion" are not medical terms. The medical term is "D&X" or "dilation and extration." ACOG, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, opposed the "partial birth abortion" law. Approximately 90% of obstetricians, gynecologists, and maternal-fetal medicine specialists belong to ACOG.

The laws are opposed because they are intentionally vague and deceptive. The real agenda is eliminating all abortion, or as many as possible. If anti-abortion legislators wanted to ban the use of dilation and extraction as a means of birth control or family planning, it would be simple to do so by writing honest laws, using precise language. The deception is what causes them to be struck down.
