Qwest is NYSE's most active (Q) by Tomi Kilgore
Qwest Communications (Q) is pulling back 2 5/8 to 55 1/4. The stock has turned over 19.2 million shares to top the NYSE's most active list. Prudential Securities upgraded the stock to a "strong buy" from an "accumulate." Analyst Floyd Greenwood said that a degree of uncertainty has been lifted as a result of the closure of the U.S. West merger, which was announced late on June 30. Analyst William Deatherage at Bear Stearns downgraded his rating to a "neutral" from a "buy," citing the stock's recent price appreciation. On Wednesday, the stock surged 6 1/8 on volume of 95.2 million shares. Since end of May, the stock has rallied 31 percent.
