CodeSmith, it's because of the market's psychology right now-- nervous, nervous, nervous

They focus on the bad. Kind of the reverse of the winter market, where 1 good report might allow the market to ignore 3 bad ones.

I don't know about today and tomorrow-- there's some economic data coming out, although if Friday's facts are benign, a rally into the weekend could happen. Next week, I'm hoping a semi earnings run begins.

Codesmith re <<What I dont understand is if one (badly researched) report can bring AMD down so far, why cant several good ones left it up?>>

Yeh, I hear you.

I think the answer is that everyone knows (thinks) that semi's continue to be VERY cyclical, so everyone want to be out first. That means that at the very first hint of the top lot of folks ran for the door. Sell now, ask question later. I think they started to ask this AM :)

CodeSmith,

That has been my observation too. When compared to other stocks, AMD seems to have a few extra elements associated with it - shorters by profession, shorters because of hate ( a small percentage of Intel investors which can be a significant absolute number) and Intel. Most of the good news you see is related to fundamentals of the company which most on this SI AMD thread understand, but mean nothing to the joe public unless the Analysts make it clear to them. This is where Intel plays a role by using its PR machine, paper launches, and spreading Fud, etc.

Only consistent earnings from AMD can get rid of these infestations gradually. I believe AMD will see far higher valuation in the early Q4'00(because of Q3'00 earnings which would erase the huge disparity between the trailing and forward PEs + 1 Year of positive earnings) than the current valuation.
