Hi Paw,

Nice to see you coming out of lurk mode, and nice to have yet another SI "first post" coming on G&K. With your holdings--"QCOM BRCM SEBL CSCO EMC NTAP BRCD INTC"--you should fit right in around here. Besides, with so many evil twins around, we can always use another Foolish tortoise.

Re our discussion of the regulars here being a bit forbidding and intimidating due to their expertise, wisdom, and so forth, just glance back at Apollo's oeuvre and you'll see there's room for all....

<< I hadn't intended to make Tekboy the go-between with my drivel on the Qualcomm chipset issue >>

Ya dun good. Tek might even benefit by writing a "cool post" about ARMHY and the use of their processors in TI & QCOM chipsets.

The "i" distinction is important, and it has relevance to this thread because we sometimes discuss ARMH and because the dual processor evidently supports an interface to 3rd party operating systems like CE and Symbian's Epoc which in turn plays in our "Handheld Game".

<< I thought TDMA was the AT&T brand name for CDMA >>

A quick story about CDMA/TDMA. Back in late 94 I got drafted into a new business unit formed by my company to exploit the digital wireless opportunities that would be presented by the FCC's auction of 1900 MHz digital wireless spectrum. Our product focus was GSM. Most operators had not yet made technology choices. I knew the difference between analog & digital, but didn't know what AMPS was even though my car phone was of that persuasion.

I boned up on GSM by reading a 690 page tome called "The GSM System for Mobile Communications" by Michel Mouly. I sort of knew what GSM & TDMA were as a result. I made my first sales call on a DC based potential bidder in the auctions. Guess what? They had selected CDMA. I spent four hours listening to their CEO & CTO explaining "spreads spectrum" & "soft handoff".

Thanks and visit often please.
