Gore Victory Seen as Bad for the Economy; Bush Victory is Neutral

A Portrait of America telephone survey found that just 27% think that a victory for Al Gore this November will be good for the American economy. 38% say that a Gore victory will be bad for the economy. That finding challenges the conventional wisdom that the economy is a trump card for Gore.

As for George W. Bush, his election is viewed overall as having a neutral impact on the economy. 37% say that a victory for the Republican will be good for the economy and 35% say it will be bad.
