And you're right, that's silly. That's why the most irrelevant part of an analyst report is the opinion.

The people who pay the analyst's bill--institutional investors--know this. For some reason, individual investors still pay far too much attention to this, and will continue to pay a price for as long as they listen.

Aren't the analysts supposed to investigate MINOR ISSUES such as sales of a company's products?

The SSB analyst that started this whole hullabaloo attempted to do just that, and is being roundly criticized on this thread.

Yes, he made an enormous leap in logic based upon limited information. When done in haste and without thought, the resulting lesson can be painful.

When this is done with thought and good analysis, it can be highly profitable. I do not know this specific analyst at all, but I can assure you, even if he had some quality data beyond what he has discussed, he sure as heck would not be touting it in the public media.
