SAN FRANCISO, July 6 (Reuters) - Applied Micro Circuits Inc. stock rose in heavy trading Thursday in advance of the company's earnings report next week.

The stock jumped 11-13/16 to 112-3/4, a rise of 11.84 percent, on volume of 10 million shares.

"There is no news to explain the stock rise," said Debra Hart, Applied's investor relations manager.

She said she knew of no fresh brokerage reports either that might explain the move.

The company reports results next Wednesday and the stock has sometimes risen in anticipation of positive results in past reporting periods.

The stock is also recovering from declines suffered last month when it told analysts sales from its main customer, Nortel Networks Corp. , would be slower than expected.

The company is involved in selling chips for the fast- growing optical communications business. Analysts expect the company to report a strong gain in earnings to 17 cents a share from six cents in the prior year's quarter, according to First Call/Thomson Financial.
