Jdaasoc, re: confirmation of the reason for Intel/VIA suit

Intel said, essentially, that VIA violated the pact between the two companies by releasing products not covered under the agreement. VIA, in an interview with ZDNet News, claimed that Intel was attempting to scare away VIA's customers. The company was preparing a vigorous defense.

Intel VIA chipsets with Intel processors often included technology that could not be found in Intel's own chipsets. Support for some of these items, such as PC 133 Synchronous Dynamic RAM and AGP 4X graphics, were only recently introduced on a mainstream Intel PC chipset, the 815 and 815E.

Also appears that the remaining litigation is over P6 bus and Cyrix.

This litigation will center on whether VIA has the ability to pair its Cyrix III chip with the Intel P6 bus. Cyrix Corp., purchased last year by VIA, did have a license to do so. However, Intel says that license was voided when VIA purchased Cyrix from National Semiconductor Corp.
