Assuming the thread's line of reasoning is correct, why was the buy back offer subsequent to the downgrade? What would the implications have been if the buy back offer came before the downgrade?

Well that sure would explain a lot. The Salomon analyst has been pretty postitive on AMD in the past.

He has always been positive on the processor side, and in his report yesterday he continued to be positive on processors. I don't ever recall him spending a lot of time talking about flash in his reports. As someone else mentioned, we should watch for an upgrade after Q2 earnings.
