This most recent cut means that the FCC will have had nearly US$30 billion less than it asked for the current financial year. In response to this latest blow, the FCC has been forced to cancel foreign trips to make up the shortfall amongst other measures.

??...

How much did they 'ask' for?

Ray- I wasn't implying that I didn't think the FCC was not doing a great job in the last few years I've been following them. I'm just saying for years and years the 1996 Telecom Act went no where. Then all of a sudden, Bam! ATT spends $102 billion on the cable plant, and it's off to the races for DSL, fixed wireless, sat wireless, and HFC access solutions. Not to mention mobile wireless but that is more of an Internet phenomenom.

And, lo and behold, all have been priced at around the traditional cable model pricing structure. Not the monopolistic teleco model previously available, ISDN, Frame Relay, T1, etc. It's a dream come true for the folks at the FCC.

As far as the FCC goes, Holy cow! Gee I never knew that a $30 billion cut, could be labeled a "cut." I would have guess that was their entire annual budget. So how much does the FCC annually cost taxpayers? Or was it a typo? -MikeM(From Florida)

PS After I re-read the article, it seems like the "$30 billion cut" may be a typo. $30 billion may be total annual budget? But even if so, that seems quite hefty.
