No, it doesn't invalidate the bug when it can't be repeated. Although if I test it in as many ways as I can think of (or just a specific test case if it's reported that way), and the bug doesn't manifest itself, I don't report and, instead, solicit reports of other ways to make it happen or ask if it appears to have been fixed. In this case, it was. Yes, those intermittent ones are the worst! When I was in that game, I always dreaded hearing the word "sometimes" from a user. And I don't use that word with our programmers. Where possible (and that's most of the time), I give a specific set of instructions that will cause the bug to rear its ugly head.
