No, it doesn't invalidate the bug when it can't be repeated. Although if I test it in as many ways as I can think of (or just a specific test case if it's reported that way), and the bug doesn't manifest itself, I don't report and, instead, solicit reports of other ways to make it happen or ask if it appears to have been fixed.

Yes, those intermittent ones are the worst! When I was in that game, I always dreaded hearing the word "sometimes" from a user. And I don't use that word with our programmers. Where possible (and that's most of the time), I give a specific set of instructions that will cause the bug to rear its ugly head.
