VKCO making a positive call on the semi industry this a.m.:

Good morning. We are making a bullish call on the semiconductor capital equipment sector this
morning. While capex numbers trended up significantly last year - up 15+% in 1999, and no one
doubts the downtrend will result from over capacity, we do not feel that historically one or
two years of increased capex can cause overcapacity. Capex numbers in 2000 should be up 51%
and we feel they can be up a further 24% in 2001. In 1993-1995 capital spending increases
outstripped the rate of market growth for three years before a state of oversupplyu began to
set in.
