Qualcomm Down 6% On Talk Korea Won't
Use Co's Technology

Dow Jones Newswires

By Janet Whitman

NEW YORK -- Shares of Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) slipped 8.7% early
Friday on talk that Korea's major wireless-phone operators won't use the
telecommunications equipment maker's technology.

"That's the rumor, but I don't think it's been confirmed yet," said one
analyst who preferred not to be named. "The rumblings are that Korea
doesn't want to offer an isolated service" by using Qualcomm's CDMA
technology, the analyst said.

SK Telecom Co., Korea Telecom Corp., and LG Telecom Co., which are
expected to win licenses to start offering service next year, reportedly
won't use Qualcomm's CDMA technology, analysts said.

Qualcomm's shares were off 5 3/8, trading hands recently at 56 5/16 on
volume of 7.7 million shares, compared to average daily volume of 21.8
million shares.
