This is what I think about WCDMA and CDMA2000.

First of all, Korea also wants to play on both sides.

On WCDMA side

No matter what we want to call it. There'll be a lot planning go for it in GSM world and Japan. So from business point of view, Korean want to have a bridge to there. So I don't see a CDMA2000 sweep in Korea. Heck Qualcomm also developing WCDMA so I see no wrong in thinking about it.

On CDMA2000 side

Need I say more about technology wise and cost wise? One arguement put up in those news report about isolate technology is bullshit. Japan already have it, so will U.S., so will South America, so will Australia, so will China. And last time I check U.S. is still the economic center of the world. CDMA is still the fastest growing technology in the world. Given Korean's leading role in CDMA world, not even the most diehard GSM zealots will have their right mind think Korea want to give up on CDMA2000.

Bottom line, the toll gate is open to anybody. No need to cry about WCDMA. From Qualcomm part, we can build better technology, but we can also build not so better stuff too, if that's what you want.
