Charles,

re: Why Intel/VIA deal is bad for AMD.

First of all there is limted wafer capacity in the world.

If chipset volumes shift substantially over to serverworks for servers and via for desktops then Intel has more capacity for CPU's.

If Intel produces more CPU's then that provides pressure on AMD's marketshare and CPU pricing.

In addition as VIA has limited wafer capacity available, and as it ramps from 25% chip set marketshare to 60% chipset marketshare, this may mean that there may be limited support/volumes of AMD chipsets.

Longer term i can see an Intel deal for Piv chipsets and a resolution by via not to support athlon chipsets due "low margins" etc.

regards,

Kash
