13:02 ET QUALCOMM (QCOM) 57 11/16 -4: -- Update -- Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown defending QCOM; says Bloomberg report is wrong in stating that Korea's biggest operators plan to use WCDMA only; also notes that Qualcomm benefits the same in terms of royalties regardless of which version of mobile CDMA an operator chooses to deploy (CDMA, WCDMA, etc). But DBAB does note that there is uncertainty regarding QCOM's market share for WCDMA chipsets; says that given Nokia and Ericsson's focus on this market, QCOM will likely be more challenged for market share of WCDMA chipsets. DBAB maintains STRONG BUY rating on QCOM.

The folks at Lehman Brothers are internally reporting that Korea Telecom has selected CDMA 2000 . . . these folks have done a good job cutting through the FUD when it comes to that part of the world.

That was in a report dated July 6. On July 7, they recanted and said, "We do not expect formal confirmation of these tech choices in Korea until early next week, however, we highlight QCOM clearly stands to benefit from the rollout of any CDMA related technology."
