My experience is that a company will not split if they think that the stock may take a hit. It is generally a bullish indication. There is a difference in perception of a $50 stock, a $25 stock and a $10 stock. KLIC is currently at $56, post split that is $28. If they have bad earnings, their stock could quickly fall into the teens and that is where the perception of the stock really changes.
