OT: DELL alternatives

Sorry, but I cannot recommend SUNW over DELL. However since this is the EMC thread I'm happy to recommend EMC in preference to DELL. If forced to choose between DELL and SUNW, however, I believe DELL will significantly outperform SUNW over the next 3+ years.

The reason the Pentium 4 needs fast memory is because the chip will debut at 1400 MHz and ramp from there. This is serious computational horsepower. Couple this class of chip on hundreds of millions of desktops with broadband net access and Son-of-Napster collaborative software (the idea behind MSFT's .NET initiative) and the mainframe-in-the-sky vision of the net's future will be headed for the museums in short order. This is the future that EMC is preparing for while its competitors try to match its current offerings. Storage as a network service represents a huge growth opportunity in the years ahead.
