Whoa, sounds like pretty strange bedfellows to me. If I were a customer of AMD, I would hope that's a bad rumor. Of course, more fiscal stability wouldn't hurt...

Interesting.

That rumor may be the same one some Yahoo on the board of same name has been repeatedly posting.

Most people there viewed it as a joke, telling the guy that he'd be more effective if he created 5 aliases, rather than using the same one to post the same rumor every day.

He may have simply spread to another message board.

Crazyman - RE: "According to rumors, Advanced Micro Devices is being looked at by Nokia as a possible takeover candidate. A price has not been hinted at and, if the rumors are true, Nokia is still in the very preliminary stages of checking to see if it wants to purchase the chip-maker."

That doesn't make much sense. Nokia makes cell phones and buys AMD's flash. The only think Nokia would want from AMD is its flash business, but AMD sells its flash to Nokia's competitors and AMD even has long term contracts with some of these companies.

Anyways, Jerry is probably too proud to sell out. ;)

CrazyMan,

IT would be an interesting way for Nokia to acquire Motorola's process experience, some fabs and plentiful flash. The only think missing is a DSP chip.

Well, shoot, I just looked up NOK, its 3.8% gain today comes out to about 75% of AMD's total market cap, so I guess they could do it. Like others have said, it doesn't seem like that good a fit, but who knows. At current prices, AMD ought to be attractive to more than a few of the high fliers.

Cheers, Dan.
