If you have issues with the mildly moderated thread, how do you manage to live day-to-day in this country?

A traffic cop can tell you what to do. So can a judge, your boss, and the IRS. We tolerate the restrictions because we don't
want to live in anarchy; we're willing to trade a little bit of freedom for order and security.

I personally feel we trade too much freedom for order and security. But that belief applies to government imposed restrictions. If the restrictions are not imposed on me without my consent I don't have a problem. I used to be in the VA National Guard, and I didn't have a philosophical problem with the orders I received during basic training, because I signed up, I was not drafted. The moderated thread is also not imposed on me so I don't have any problem with it. I read and post on both threads now.

Doug,

we're willing to trade a little bit of freedom for order and security.

Thanks for your comments.

There is very little similarity between living in this country and the mod. thread.

A traffic cop can tell you what to do. So can a judge, your boss, and the IRS. We tolerate the restrictions because we don't want to live in anarchy; we're willing to trade a little bit of freedom for order and security.

Yes, but in all those cases I have recourse and can change the outcome....we have a system of appeals, checks and balances, iniatives, the vote etc.....this complex system has been designed over two+ centuries...it can be cumbersome and repetitive, and is definitely in need of a few upgrades and some deletions but it still works.

Think of it like Parliament. Someone is there to make sure things don't degenerate into worthlessness. I hope you join the moderated thread... besides, it isn't like someone reviews the posts *before* you post them, and unlike a frat, there's no rush, and anyone can join. It's more like living in the dorms-- they don't allow you to pull the fire alarms whenever you feel like it... if you do, you're kicked out.
