From what I have read, the "talking therapies", of all kinds, do only slightly better than placebos. Behavior modification can be useful for a limited range of problems, and pharmacology has promise for psychosis and the amelioration of some severe neurotic symptoms. Of counseling methods, I would prefer an existential approach, one that put the issues of meaning and choice in the forefront..........
