You should be much more concerned if AMD decides to leave the chipset biz

I absolutely agree. AMD must continue to produce high end chipsets.

I just don't think that AMD going it alone against Intel is a good idea, even if they could outsource the additional chipset requirements (and that must have horrendous margins). Via may be unresponsive and produce slow chipsets but they are an additional challenge to the dominance of chipzilla.

kash, <You should be much more concerned if AMD decides to leave the chipset biz and rely on its partners like VIA and no shows like MU, SIS etc.>

Why doesn't AMD grant warrants to SiS, VIA, ALi if they meet certain percentage/quantity Athlon chipset targets? AMD as a non-monopolist can do this legally. Intel cannot.

AMD could also build chipsets for SiS at UMC and/or TSMC since SiS apparently can't get priority there.
