Bulls,
That is a common but misleading argument from the GSM/WCDMA camp. Nobody is saying WCDMA is owned by QCOM. In fact it is vaporware thought up by the Europeans and NTT. All were saying is QCOM will get the same royalties per phone, no matter what the flavor. So, if you think WCDMA will be more competitive than CDMA2000 with the cost of QCOM's 5% royalties and the toll extorted by the cabal, with all due respect you must be nuts.

Regards,
Dan

Bulls...in the ERICY/QCOM settlement ERICY has stipulated that all variants of CDMA are based on QCOM IP and royalties are due to QCOM...period...obviously you have some personal agenda with your personal attack on Dr. J. when you call him 'Irwin "arrogant" Jacobs'...do you work for Nokia?...talk about a company that will have to wake up and smell the coffee..or as you so intelligently say "wake up and 'spell' the coffee...spell this ..royalties due.

You're right... those masters of CDMA NOK/IDCC are really in control with WCDMA.. that's why Jorma was quoted as saying they're 18 months behind in CDMA a week or two ago... and why they are now outsourcing 2G chips (undoubtedly much easier than 3G...) through Telson/QCOM. That's why Ericsson capitulated and signed the deal with QCOM on CDMA and bought their infrastructure division, because they were the leaders...

Nobody said ALL of the IPR was QCOM's... The statement was that WCDMA is built on the back of QCOM's IPR...i.e. that the system won't work without it. I'm sure there are NOK IPR for the changeout of the multi-colored casings, and ERICY IPR for the way in which the keypad/display screen uncovers, and IDCC IPR for the rotation of the propeller on the beanie that comes with each handset as a cooling device...

>>>Irwin "arrogant" Jacobs is a good CEO who has to wake up and spell the coffee.<<<

Dude, do you walk into beach bars and shout, "Surfers Suck"?

When you get a chance to talk with Dr. Jacobs and meet with him on several ocassions, then you may spread your views about his personalty.

I will refrain from expressing my opinion of your personality at this time.
