I admit I have only limited experience with the people of Mainland China, but that experience indicates to me that, as much as I disagree with their political and economic systems, the people on a personal level are gracious and generous. I certainly did not encounter a "what's yours is mine" attitude in them.

Of course, that's JMHO.

Charles,
The Chinese tradition is keeping the technical secret (including everything) from within the family. They would not even teach their daughters the trade secrets because they are afraid that she would get married and transfer the secret to other family. You can be sure that whatever they created would be stayed within China. Open source code (or open anything really not on the China tradition and the Red China as far as I can see). However, they are very resourceful people, I would see that Linux will go much further if they devote to that platform.
