Another factor would be investor's looking at the $3.36 annual EPS figure based on last 4 q's and comparing it to the much lower estimate of $0.87 for this year.

At first glance, looks like negative income growth.

Furthermore, 2001 earnings will likely be lower than 2000 earnings unless there is another substantial one time gain.

I am curious as to why SNDK booked their UMC stock gain in advance of selling their shares. Normal practice would be to book the gains when they are realised. We are now subject to further EPS disruptions as the actual gain realised will differ from the paper gain booked in March.
