<<GTE...wifie was just issued a new MOT phone with GTE as the service provider. Well,
we all know what that means...the San Diego GTE CDMA service was bought out by
ATT recently...who will be converting the whole damn thing to TDMA by the end of the
year (or so they say).>>

Same thing here in Michigan. SBC(TDMA) bought up Ameritech(CDMA). Their ads state they will upgrade??
current Ameritech subscribers if they turn in their old phone. No mention of type of service. Our occasional housekeeper was thrilled with new phone until I told her the facts re: different systems. She may switch to Sprint as she never uses the phone out of the Sprint area and would, therefore, have no roaming charges. I have used Sprint for
several years, even roaming, as cost is no object when making tee times or motel reservations on the road and have
been satisfied with the service. Loud and clear, anywhere. K
