Thanks for that article...I found this comment/insight one that really struck me:

"Peter Chang, UMC's chief executive of foundry operations, predicted another three to four years of growth in the chip industry thanks to ``a new kind of demand'' from consumer products such as mobile phones.

``The beauty of this demand is that it's like a fashion thing,'' Chang said. ``People keep on changing their phone. I've changed three phones already this year."


It seems like I once worried about market penetration in areas like PC's, cellphones, etc. Now the rate of change in technology is so fast that it renders penetration concerns somewhat baseless. Technology is changing so fast and driving costs so low and so fast that consumers think nothing of upgrading to a better product at a lower cost. I'm not sure I would call it "fashion", but it certainly is a different mindset than I have ever seen before.
