Welcome to the thread. Jacob's use of the carefully chosen word "flavor" implies that one should think of the various forms of CDMA much like ice cream. It may be hard to make good ice cream, but making different flavors available is a piece of cake ( I love mixed metaphors<<gg>>). It's also not hard to make ice cream containing both chocolate and vanilla flavors. QCOM expertise allows it to excel in either WCDMA or CDMA because WCDMA is an overlay or modification of CDMA,not a separate technology.
In fact the use of the term WCDMA is both an admission that it's really CDMA in disguise as well as being useful for creating confusion in the uninformed.

sditto, thanks so much for your valuable contribution.

We see vertical manufacturers trying to develop and use their own chip sets.

This looks like an indirect reference to NOK, and indicates to me that Dr. J. does not necessarily see NOK capitulating, in spite of their recent decision to buy QCOM ASICS indirectly.
