I purchased a Kingston 48MB compact flash card for a recent trip and also had to buy a new card reader, because the Kingston card was too fat for my SanDisk reader. It was only $30, so no big deal. I've seen people try and transfer their files via the serial port on their computer. I could not imagine waiting for 48MB of pictures to transfer to my computer.

A USB reader is a must have IMHO.
