Actually, those recent comments by Dr. Jacobs merely repeat statements he made at Qualcomm's annual meeting last February. I can attest to that, as I heard them in person. Until the patent rights are adjudicated in a court of law, each of us must decide who to believe. Speaking for myself, I find Dr. Jacobs to be very credible and his arguments convincing. I am further swayed by the fact that no official of Nokia or Motorola has refuted his allegations, and by the fact that Ericsson bought a 3G license from qcom that encompasses WCDMA. With Qualcomm flavor 3G kicking off in Korea in the fall, and WCDMA, by Nokia's own statements, at least 18 months off, it would seem that the GSM camp needs to begin serious negotiations with qcom before the market becomes aware of the uncertainty surrounding their long term prospects.
