Tokyo Stocks Follow NY Higher
TOKYO (Reuters) - Tokyo stocks tested higher ground on Monday morning, encouraged by signs that U.S. interest rates may have peaked for now.

The benchmark Nikkei average perked up 138.93 points or 0.80 percent to 17,537.17 by midday. The capital-weighted TOPIX index of all first-section shares rose 12.0 points or 0.75 percent to 1,609.36.

The gains followed rises in U.S. stocks on Friday after benign jobs data signaled that the Federal Reserve may hold back from hiking rates again.

Information technology (IT) stocks, including telecoms and high-tech manufacturers, attracted strong buying in particular.
