This latest FUD war doesn't seem like a war at all. It's more of a one sided argument waged by the GSM camp. Qualcomm and its backers have been pretty quiet during all this. There has been one strongly worded PR from Qualcomm and that's it. I wonder why that is? I'm starting to wonder if all's not well in EuroLand. The GSM camp has obviously been doing a hell of a lot of lobbying in CDMA land. I wonder if that means Qualcomm has been given a chance to compete in Europe? The GSM camp knows that Qualcomm's strength comes from ASIA and the Americas and that's exactly where they are focused today in spreading their WCDMA/GSM gospel. WCDMA won't be available to the Koreans or anyone else for at least 2 years, so why make a big fuss now? I think something is up in Europe that has made Nokia and Ericsson very nervous. After all, we've been hearing for quite a while about GSM/CDMA dual mode phones and with 1X being available today. Why wouldn't a European carrier upgrade/switch their GSM networks to 1X/HDR and compete with its GPRS rivals? According to Irwin, that's not even a fair competition. We've also heard from Mark Roberts that ETSI may be softening its stance on allowing other "CDMA" technologies.

I think people that are too focused on "news" from Korea/China will be completely blown away with possible developments for CDMA in Europe.
