Yes, you're right. I forgot (until you reminded me) about TCs being replaced by ceramic caps. Bingo - that's it.

Thread, I had a glitch and completely forget that TCs are being successfully replaced by ceramic caps.

His report should have included this information.

This is not much about capacitor capacity but more
because of progress in power FET switchers. AMD's
reference designs use switchers at up to 2MHz which
allows very small coils, and they use ceramics only
(since TC just do not work, and there is no need for
high capacitance at these frequencies). No heat
sinks for FETS is required also :)
