wCDMA could be a relatively easy roll-out for QCOM.

The two prime infrastructure contracts for NTT Docomo's W-CDMA contract went to Lucent and Ericsson. LU is the largest CDMA infrastructure manufacturer in the world and Ericsson owns Qualcomm's infrastructure group.

CDMA is not magic....other companies DO have expertise in the field. At this point Qualcomm is ahead of its competitors....but how long will this last if NTT manages to roll-out W-CDMA without Qualcomm's chips? Qualcomm needs to be participating in the various trials going on around the world....
