Westell Partners With Shore.Net to Deliver ADSL Services to New England; Shore.Net First ISP to Join Westell DSL Partner Program
AURORA, Ill., Jul 10, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Westell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: WSTL chart, msgs) through its Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) Business Unit today announced a partnership with Shore.Net, A PRIMUS Company, one of New England's top ISPs and web hosting providers, to become the exclusive provider of ADSL modems to Shore.Net as it rolls out its new residential and small business ADSL service in Massachusetts. Shore.Net also becomes the first ISP to formally join Westell's DSL Partner Program, leveraging Westell's global leadership in DSL to bring the benefits of broadband connectivity to Shore.Net's residential and small business users.

Under the agreement, Westell will supply Shore.Net with its WireSpeed(TM) DSL modems as Shore.Net has recently unveiled a comprehensive ADSL service plan to customers beginning in June. Shore.Net will launch its ADSL services in the Boston area, then expand the service throughout Massachusetts and eventually throughout New England where Bell Atlantic has deployed DSL. Shore.Net's ADSL services will include Bell Atlantic's ADSL access packaged with Shore.Net's Internet access.

Westell's WireSpeed DSL modems will supply Shore.Net customers with an "always-on" high-speed Internet connection over existing phone lines at speeds up to 140 times faster than 56K modems. WireSpeed modems are "plug-and-play," proven to be the easiest to install, and offer users and providers simple, cost-effective ADSL access.

As the first ISP to join Westell's DSL Partner Program, Shore.Net will take advantage of a broad range of marketing tools and support services, all designed to boost the ISP's bottom line through sales of ADSL products and services, including Westell's WireSpeed DSL modems. The DSL Partner Program is part of a new Westell initiative that includes the expansion of the company's distribution channels by leveraging its global leadership in DSL to bring the benefits of broadband connectivity to residential and small business users and capture a larger share of the lucrative broadband market by assisting them in attracting new customers to ADSL technology.

Mike Santiago, Vice President and General Manager of Westell CPE, said the deal with Shore.Net is a perfect fit for Westell given the synergy between the two companies. "This partnership validates our product strategy as Shore.Net is targeting its ADSL services at the same two primary users that Westell is focusing on -- residential and small business customers. We look forward to working closely with Shore.Net to deploy future ADSL products and services that are on the way from Westell."

"Our requirements for an ADSL partner were very specific. We needed reliability and a simple to deploy, plug-and-play solution, and Westell exceeded our requirements on both counts," said Lowell J. Gray, General Manager of Shore.Net. "Their commitment to residential users and the SOHO markets makes them a good hardware partner for us as we roll out ADSL to this new class of users, and Westell's new DSL Partner Program is a significant advantage as it contributes to our move into this market area."
