All I can think is, JDSU should know what the envelope is--they have the experience. BTW, can you imagine what a powerhouse the combined companies would be? Now the recent relative weakness in JDSU the stock makes more sense--kudos to those who recognized that one and acted accordingly.

Time to whip out the kazoo :)

This is hard to say exactly. As far as the merchant market is concerned, you may be correct, but don't forget about Corning. If you include all optical component vendors then Lucent would be in the top 2, I believe.
