Huge shortage in DSL/Cable Bandwidth has the Light Optics companies scrambling to get a hold on that part of the market ushering in consolidation mergers such as JDSU and SDLI.QUALCOMM will be in a very strong position as it rolls out HDR taking advantage of this huge window of opportunity in the bandwidth thirst suffered by many areas of the USA that can't get DSL/Cable let alone the world wide market for the ultimate wireless internet portal that QUALCOMM owns in HDR access. The roll out of HDR and CDMA2000 will blast away the thoughts of waiting for the untimely release of WCDMA.QUALCOMM will be the formidable Intel of wireless chips and ASICS.JMHO

The cisco article is a statement for the layer that connects the basestations and provides IP addresses for the over the air technology, NO MATTER WHICH ONE IT IS. Thre are alot of present problems with the way IP addresses are used today. Your local ISP has a block and they can assign IP addresses dynamically now, which says they have a base set and then assign the last few digits of it dynamically as they need them.

Mobile IP fixes alot of the roaming problems asociated with this as well as alot of ambiguity about address assignment.

It has nothing what so ever to do with the over the air interface, they are saying (although very poorly worded) that it is over the air interfce independent.
