A friend of mine is a young manager in email marketing for a CMGI co. She says it is largely a joke.

Run by kids right out of college, some are actually drop-outs, they know not what they are doing and she mostly spends her time running around stamping out fires these kids start. And the email lists have high innacuracy rates, and are highly aged.

Email marketing is another dead duck.
