Well, something close to a scientific hoax is Science fiction literature. Its interesting how often real science ends up close to what was projected as futuristic in science fiction. That makes sense since science fiction is often based on emerging theory and technology...but so are hoaxes. I put hoaxes, therefore, into a category with science fiction. That is why I posed the question.
