>> Isn't put selling one of the bullish strategies? Aside from edamo and PAL, many on this board, particularly Ibexx and Diamond H., seemed to have successfully employed this strategy.

I think you'd be better directing that question to edamo, since it's his specialty. Shorting puts is appropriate if you have either a bullish or neutral stance, but like any option play, it carries more risk than ltb&h.

Most of my portfolio resides in tax sheltered accounts which preclude the use of margin. This rules out put writing, so I have no practical experience.

Hi Di:

Although I am a perma-bull on qcom and that selling put is a bullish strategy, right now, i am staying away from any option play on qcom. The main reason is that there are news coming out in the next few days: wednesday will be the announcement from Korea government; next week earnings report and more importantly how the market will react to the guidance which will be given at that time.

a short term option play on qcom will be similar to a game of chance since we still don't know which direction the stock will be in the near term. While granted the stock has been oversold, hence, a bullish strategy like shorting put is desirable, however, due to the recent weakness of qualcomm, I would think that there are other stocks which are more appealing for a s/t play.

best to you

paul

disu, put selling at higher qcom levels w/b like a vice squeezing the life out of one's portfolio right about now.

you gotta be very careful - though i don't see a whole bunch of downside from here... but many never saw this downside, either... i did, but didn't believe it would happen w/o a market tank...
